Heart and Vascular Institute

Trident Health System offers you and your family a wide range of adult cardiovascular services close to home at Trident Medical Center and Summerville Medical Center.  When you or a loved one has heart disease, it affects the entire family.  Our comprehensive heart program brings together expert doctors, nurses, and other health care members to provide care for those who have heart disease and those at risk for heart disease.  Combined with this high quality of professional care is the latest technological equipment and an after care program tailored to your needs once you leave the hospital.

Experienced Healthcare Team

Our team of skilled cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, nurses, technicians, technologists, dieticians and rehabilitation specialists are dedicated to delivering the quality care you need with a focus on your individual needs.

Diagnostic Tests

Trident Heart and Vascular Services offers a wide range of diagnostic  tests and treatments at each of our facilities.  These tests provide your doctor with information about your condition.  The Heart and Vascular Center at Trident Medical Center now offers imaging of the cardiovascular system by radiologists and cardiologists specifically trained in cardiac imaging.  This technology - the 64-slice CT scanner - is one of the most advanced cardiac diagnostic tools available today.  A Coronary CT Angiogram, or CCTA, is a new cardiac imaging study that is performed on the 64-slice CT scanner.  The scanner creates a 3D picture of the heart, giving doctors a very clear and immediate view of the heart, valves, heart muscle and blood vessels.  To learn more about this advanced technology and for scheduling tools, click here

Catheterization Procedures

Heart catheterizations are performed at Trident Medical Center.  They can be done on an outpatient as well as inpatient basis, depending on your situation.

Critical Care Department

Our Critical Care Unit provides continuous monitoring and care by specially trained nurses and therapists using up-to-date equipment.  After heart surgery, patients are transferred to the Critical Care Department.

Telemetry Unit

After recovery in the Critical Care Unit, cardiac patients are transferred to the Telemetry Unit where nurses and technicians will continue to monitor your heart and further guide your recovery.  Both Trident and Summerville Medical Center's telemetry units provide continuous heart monitoring for patients needing this level of care.

Cardiac Rehabilitation and Healthy Lifestyle

Our commitment to comprehensive cardiac care extends beyond diagnosis and treatment.  Cardiac rehabilitation is a key component of cardiac care.  Cardiac rehabilitation begins soon after you are admitted as our team of nurses, exercise specialists, and nutritionists offer education, activity and exercise guidelines and counseling.  The goal is to help cardiac patients adopt lifestyle habits to improve their cardiovascular health and fitness.  Cardiac rehabilitation is available at both Trident and Summerville Medical Centers.

Prevention services are also offered.  These programs include:  cholesterol screenings, heart appraisals, nutrition counseling, cardiovascular screenings, smoking cessation courses, and weight management counseling.
